Steel is a sustainable material because once it is made it can be used, as steel, for ever. Steel is continually recycled, so the investment in making steel is never wasted and can be taken advantage of by future generations. Steel is a material that is used, not consumed.

Compared to other building materials, it doesn’t take a lot of steel to hold up a building. Even though structural steel is mainly higher carbon plain steel, all types of steel are strong and highly durable in any form (stainless, carbon, galvanized, mild).

However, since it is so sustainable, you can also create an entire building out of steel if it strikes your fancy including structure, doors and windows, exterior cladding systems, and even decorative architectural interiors.
